Desmond Cheung

Desmond Cheung is a seasoned telecommunications executive and currently serves as Director and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (IOH). He assumed the role following the company’s formation in 2022 through the merger of Indosat Ooredoo and Hutchison 3 Indonesia.

After successfully leading one of the region’s most complex network integration programs—while delivering double-digit revenue growth—Desmond is now focused on advancing IOH’s next-generation capabilities and its transformation into an AI-native telco. He is championing the adoption of agentic AI, pioneering AI-RAN and AI-Grid innovations, and accelerating 5G deployment to deliver AI-powered products and services at scale that drive revenue growth and customer love.

Prior to IOH, Desmond was CTO of Hutchison 3 Indonesia from 2015 to 2021, where he played a key role in strengthening network quality and operational excellence. Earlier, he served as CTO of Vietnamobile (2010–2015), and held several senior leadership positions at Hutchison Telecom, including Project Director at Hutchison Telecom International (2004–2010) and Network Director at Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong (1997–2004).

Desmond holds a First Class Honours degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
