Veemal Gungadin is the Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, where he is leading the company’s transformation from a traditional telecommunications operator into a national digital infrastructure backbone for the AI era.
Appointed in April 2025, he returned to Mauritius after 25 years of building and scaling digital businesses across Singapore, the United States, China and India. His experience spans cloud platforms, secure digital services, enterprise software, AI-powered products and large-scale digital transformation.
At Mauritius Telecom, Veemal is driving an agenda focused on sovereign cloud, AI infrastructure, regional connectivity, digital talent and platform-based services. Under his leadership, the company became the first in Mauritius to deploy NVIDIA GPUs and is advancing mytGPT, an AI-powered education platform for teachers and students.
His broader vision is to position Mauritius as a trusted digital hub at the crossroads of Africa and Asia, supported by resilient connectivity, secure infrastructure and sovereign AI capabilities.
Before joining Mauritius Telecom, Veemal served as CEO of Gevme, where he built digital platforms for governments, enterprises and global organisations. He serves on the Board of Directors of Digital Council Africa and Orange Madagascar, and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore.
